Australia – United States Free Trade Agreement
The recently finalised Free Trade agreement between
Australia and the United States has significant implications
for many areas of government policy and legislation.
AGS is conscious of the need to ensure that a coordinated
and consistent approach is taken to the implementation
of the agreement at a government level.
As the largest national provider of legal advice
to government, AGS is uniquely equipped to bring
a whole of government perspective to this task. The
strength and depth of our people in our commercial,
government and litigation and dispute management
areas will allow us to provide advice and support
in an integrated and comprehensive way.
Many of the issues that are likely to arise could
be expected to be common to a number of different
departments and agencies. AGS has a track record
of providing a coordinated legal service across departments
and agencies to ensure consistency of approach and
cost effectiveness. For information on the implications
of the FTA on government procurement and intellectual
property, see Commercial

down intergovernmental agreements across a broad
range of government policy initiatives and their
practical implementation enables us to ensure that
difficulties are minimised and the work proceeds
as efficiently as possible.
