PRIVACY AND FREEDOM OF INFORMATION

With strengths in: privacy and protection of information, and freedom of information.

Access to information and privacy issues are of great importance to government agencies at all levels because they hold and manage so much information on behalf of the public to whom they are accountable.

AGS has been at the forefront of these areas of law since their introduction and has a specialist unit of lawyers who practise solely in them. Their knowledge and practical experience in advising and representing clients in freedom of information and privacy matters are without equal in Australia.

See Express law ‘AAT awards compensation for breach of privacy’ 3 December 2004, Express law ‘Quoting the substance of legal advice in negotiations may make it subject to FOI’ 9 September 2004, Express law ‘Privacy complainants can go directly to the Federal Court’ 27 May 2004, Commercial notes No. 13 ‘Online privacy, spam and the Stored Communications Act’ 8 February 2005, Commercial notes No. 17 ‘The extended reach of the Workplace Surveillance Act’ 5 October 2005.
