ROYAL COMMISSIONS AND INQUIRIES
Our long and extensive experience in Royal Commissions
and inquiries means we bring an impressive corporate
memory to bear on the management of any new project.
The Australian Government Solicitor provided the
bulk of legal services for the Royal Commission into
the Building and Construction Industry, Australia’s
first national review of the industry’s conduct
and practices.
We also supported the HIH Royal Commission, from
its inception in 2001 through to overseeing the closing
down of operations.
Recent AGS experience in this area includes:
- coronial inquiries into deaths arising from
the HMAS Westralia fire
- assisting with the Department of Defence F-111
Deseal/Reseal Board of Inquiry
- acting as solicitor assisting the Australian
Broadcasting Authority in its cash-for-comment
inquiry into agreements entered into by presenters
from radio station 2UE
- assisting the Bureau of Meteorology in the coronial
inquiry into deaths arising out of the 1998 Sydney
to Hobart yacht race
- acting for the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric
Authority between 1998 and 2000 in a coronial inquest
into the Thredbo disaster
- HIH
