HIH ROYAL COMMISSION

The HIH Royal Commission concluded with the Commissioner, Justice Neville Owen, delivering his report in April 2003. The report examines the reasons for and circumstances surrounding the collapse of HIH Insurance in March 2001.

As lawyers supporting the Commission since its inception in 2001, an AGS team was involved in gathering documents and other evidence concerning the collapse, analysing complex issues in company and insurance law, developing legal policy issues associated with insurance regulation, interviewing witnesses and helping counsel in the conduct of the hearings. The team also oversaw the closing down of operations. Simon Daley, senior executive lawyer, AGS Sydney, led the AGS team.

In recognition of their outstanding work and support, the team received an AGS Australia Day award in 2003.
