University of Sydney/AGS Administrative Law

AGS’s 2010 Concurrent Courses: ‘Excellence in Government Decision-making’ and ‘Administrative Law Symposium: Commonwealth and New South Wales’

The first event is the 22-26 March 2010 edition of the Excellence course. This course has already been run very successfully twice in 2009. For March 2010, the course will run for 4.5 days and will feature AGS practitioners, academics from the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales, and representation from the Public Interest Advocacy Centre. The course will also feature the Commonwealth Attorney-General and the Secretary of the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department, numerous judges of the Federal Court and NSW Supreme Court (including the Chief Justice of the latter), the Presidents of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Administrative Decisions Tribunal, and leading members of the Bar.

The second event is the 24–26 March 2010 Symposium. This is the first time we have offered part of the Excellence course in a shorter form. The Symposium then is a concurrent event with the Excellence course. The Symposium overlaps with the Excellence course, beginning with the course/symposium dinner on the Wednesday evening 24 March 2010. The Excellence course and the Symposium then run together on the Thursday and Friday, 25–26 March. The Thursday and Friday will see the appearance of the Attorney, the presidents of the tribunals, the members of the judiciary and the Bar.

The offer of the Symposium as a concurrent event allows consideration of a somewhat shorter and differently focussed alternative to the Excellence course. Both the Excellence course and the Symposium will continue to be highly regarded and unique legal training experiences which will attract their own particular adherents.

Whether you choose the Excellence course or the Symposium, we at AGS Canberra sincerely hope that you will be able to join us for an interesting and enjoyable experience in Sydney in March 2010.

Please contact Heidi Bell on 02 6253 7133 or heidi.bell@ags.gov.au in relation to matters of administration; and I would be happy to discuss any matters of content with you.
