What we offer and who can enrol
AGS provides a comprehensive program of legal training for both lawyers and non-lawyers from Commonwealth, State and Territory agencies as well as members of the private legal profession, non-government organisations, students and members of the public.
The majority of our courses run in Canberra but we also offer courses in every State and Territory at certain points throughout the year and any of our courses can be arranged in any location at a client's request.
Calendar training
Our regular calendar courses cover a wide range of subject areas relevant to the business of government including administrative law, FOI, privacy, contract management, aspects of the litigation process and the making and interpretation of laws. Our courses range from one hour sessions through to three day intensives.
Our courses attract CLE/CPD points.
Other courses and seminars
In addition to our calendar courses, we also offer regular seminars on particular areas of law. To find out about these click on the links to the left. This year we are offering several new courses such as an Introduction to Contract Law, Acts Interpretation Act Changes, Commonwealth Grants and Procedural Fairness - Principles and Practicalities.
In-house and tailored training
AGS can deliver any of our standard course modules in-house and many of our clients find that this is a more satisfactory way for their staff to be trained where they have sufficient numbers of people to make it worthwhile. We can also tailor courses to suit the specific needs of clients (for example we can base training around the legislation that a particular client administers).
Why choose AGS training?
Our courses are presented by senior practitioners who are subject matter experts in the areas they teach and have a real depth of understanding of the practice of law in the government context. Our training sessions are highly interactive and include practical examples and exercises. Our training groups are kept small so that there is a lot of opportunity for discussion and taking questions from course participants.
