PRIVACY

The Privacy Act 1988 affects all aspects of public sector operations where personal information is present, so it is essential for public servants to understand the legislation and its implications.

We offer three courses on privacy to assist public servants who handle personal information as part of their duties.

To apply for a course, see our nomination form and pricing details.

For further information, see our course calendar and a list of the subjects that are covered in our calendar.

Please contact Di Harvey on T 02 6253 7126 or Kirstin Hewitt on T 02 6253 7436 or by email at cbrtraining@ags.gov.au if you require further assistance.

Feedback from previous courses

Introduction to Privacy

'Particularly good materials provided with the course – I will be using them for reference in the future. The trainer was engaging by virtue of his enviable knowledge of the subject area – I liked that he didn't read from a script and discussed the issues generally'

'Great course overall, especially considering depth and complexity of subject matter relative to the short amount of time to present it'

'The course has provided me with a greater understanding of the IPPs in particular the "use" and "disclosure" principles'

'It has given me a lot of information to use in my work environment'

'Exercises helped put the Act into a practical perspective'

'The presenters are very knowledgeable and present in an easy style – the take home notes are excellent'

Handling Privacy Complaints

'I found it to be very comprehensive, great resources and the trainer was very knowledgeable. In particular, having people from different areas of the government made the discussion really valuable.'

'I really enjoyed the course and think it will inform our policies and procedures very well. Structure, content and pace spot on.'

'It usefully addressed privacy complaints from both an agency perspective and also where matter has gone to OPC.'

Privacy – Next Steps

'An excellent course with educational interactive content and great presenters'

'Exceptional training which was presented in a style and format for the audience .. it is a highly recommended training module, particularly regarding legal obligations'

'The "contract clause" activity was very interesting and I will remember it when speaking about and engaging in contract negotiations in the future'
