INTERNATIONAL LAW

With strengths in: international agreements, international trade and business, international treaties and conventions, and public international law.

Because the Australian Government’s legal issues extend beyond our national boundaries, AGS has a team of lawyers specialising in international law. This team has broad expertise in advising clients on Australia’s treaty obligations, and assisting them to negotiate contracts with overseas-based corporations and commercial arrangements with foreign governments.

We can also assist clients with issues such as the application of the United Nations’ Commission on International Trade Law rules for arbitration, problems of service or enforcement of judgments in foreign jurisdictions, questions of insurance across jurisdictions and delivery. We also advise on the impact of foreign laws and processes such as export approval processes, end-user certification, intellectual property, taxation and currency issues.

See Commercial notes No. 10 ‘Australia – United States Free Trade Agreement’ 23 June 2004.
