Ombudsman inquiries

Government agencies frequently ask AGS to help them deal with issues regarding the Commonwealth Ombudsman and similar office-holders. These often involve matters of extreme sensitivity that carry significant risk. Our advice and assistance are underpinned by an essential understanding of government, its policies and its obligations, enabling our clients to respond in the most effective manner.

Since the office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman was created in 1977, AGS has advised on the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction and powers to investigate, Throughout that period we have also advised on the procedural and legal requirements pertaining to administrative law such as procedural fairness, in the context of the Ombudsman's proceedings, or actions of agencies that can be reviewed by the Ombudsman.
