Areas of law
Consistent with its role as the Australian Government’s central legal services provider, AGS sits alongside the Whole of Australian Government Legal Services Panel and Commonwealth agencies can use AGS for any legal work at any time.
The panel consists of 5 broad areas of law and each area of law comprises a number of practice areas. In addition to the areas of law under the panel, AGS also provides services across a number of other specialist legal streams.
Tied work is non-contestable work which, pursuant to the Attorney-General's Legal Services Directions, AGS and other tied providers are required to perform.
AGS has expert knowledge and experience in taxation matters. We provide advice and assistance to the Australian Taxation Office on a broad range of matters, including disputes, audits and investigations.
Competition and consumer law
AGS works with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Australian Energy Regulator (AER). Our regulatory team has considerable expertise in these sectors, as well as in administrative law applications.
AGS has specialist expertise in constitutional and public law, statutory interpretation and the development, implementation and administration of legislation.
