Deputy Chief Solicitor – Monetary Claims
Monetary ClaimsEmma is the Deputy Chief Solicitor for Monetary Claims in the Dispute Resolution practice area with over 25 years of experience in the areas of commercial litigation, common law claims against the Commonwealth, competition and consumer law and civil regulation. She advises particularly on the common law liability of the Commonwealth and class actions brought against the Commonwealth. Emma also has considerable experience in managing large litigation matters and legal teams. She has an excellent knowledge of risk management issues involved in Commonwealth litigation.
Emma has acted for Comcover as legal adviser in a number of multi-million-dollar class actions, complex and novel tort and contract claims, claims brought against the Commonwealth, and resolved claims against the Commonwealth through alternative dispute mechanisms. She has been legal adviser to the Commonwealth on possible common law liability arising out of chemical contamination originating on Commonwealth sites, out of the implementation of statutory schemes, and arising from government decisions. Emma has represented Home Affairs and Comcover on a number of large cohorts of personal injury claims.
She has acted for a wide range of agencies in common law claims specialising in claims for economic loss and has experience in representing the Commonwealth in claims under the Compensation for Detriment caused by Defective Administration (CDDA) Scheme.
