Senior Executive Lawyer

Marianne is a Senior Executive Lawyer in the Dispute Resolution’s Monetary Claims team with extensive experience in both litigation and public inquiries. She began her career as a Senior Lawyer at AGS in the then Litigation group before being appointed as a Senior Executive Lawyer in January 2008.

Recognised for her ability to deliver timely, practical legal advice, Marianne’s practice includes extensive experience acting in public inquiries, as well as key roles advising and leading teams of lawyers in managing large litigation matters, including class actions.

Between 2019-2024, Marianne’s practice focussed on leading teams in several high-profile Royal Commissions (for which the team members earned Australia Day awards) including co-leading the Commonwealth representation team for the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide, and serving as Deputy Solicitor Assisting the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of People with Disability.

Marianne has extensive experience acting for the Commonwealth in responding to significant claims. A seasoned negotiator with substantial experience in alternative dispute resolution, Marianne has had key roles in advising Commonwealth agencies (including Comcover) and leading teams of lawyers in responding to multimillion dollar class actions involving torts such as negligence, false imprisonment, misfeasance, and nuisance, as well as managing a high-volume caseload of individual claims, including those related to historical child abuse.

Over the years, Marianne has held various leadership roles at AGS, including Team Leader of the Dispute Resolutions Civil Claims team and Client Service Manager, a position in which she earned an AGS Australia Day Achievement Award in 2011. Her client praised her for her responsiveness, intellectual input and sound judgment.
