Course outline
This is offered in 2 parts.
Part 1
An overview of freely available legal research resources and practical strategies for using them effectively, covering:
- legislation
- extrinsic materials (explanatory memoranda and second reading speeches)
- parliamentary material
- gazettes
- treaties.
Part 2
An overview of freely available legal research resources and practical strategies for using them effectively, covering
- Australian cases
- case citators
- journal
- internet searching and limitations of open AI for legal research.
The course is delivered in a presentation style and a handout will be provided.
Presenters
Our presenters are experienced legal librarians from the Attorney-General's Department Library who have a great depth of knowledge and practical expertise in legal research.
Duration
This course is offered as 2x 1-hour sessions.
Cost
This course is free to all Commonwealth government lawyers. No more than 20 people will be accepted on each course, and courses will only be conducted if we receive sufficient nominations. Registration is online with credit card payment. For any assistance, please email trainingservices@ags.gov.au.
