SES appointments at AGS

24 June 2026

We are pleased to announce 4 SES promotions at AGS. We congratulate Sophie Maltabarow, David McKay and Kate McLaren, who have been promoted to the role of Senior General Counsel (SGC) in the Office of General Counsel (OGC) practice area. We also congratulate Jack Chenoweth who has been promoted to the role of Senior Executive Lawyer (SEL) in OGC’s Constitutional Litigation Unit. Their promotions, which were effective from 12 June, recognise the important part they will play in shaping AGS’s culture and capability.

The AGS Matthew Blunn said, ‘I want to give my congratulations to Jack, Sophie, David and Kate on their promotions, which reflect not just their technical excellence but also depth of experience, judgement, and leadership.’

The Acting OGC Leader, Olivia Abbott joined the Secretary, Katherine Jones PSM and the AGS in congratulating the new appointments, saying, ‘We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to the impact they will continue to make in these senior roles.’

Our AGS SES Band 1 SGCs and SEL (equivalent to Partner level) are highly experienced leaders who have a proven ability to manage the most significant, complex and often sensitive matters for a range of Commonwealth clients.
